Actually we are having a great time on the hard.  We have eaten out way to much including breakfast & each gained weight, that’s going to have to change!  We went to the farmer’s market yesterday, Sat. 22nd,  ate out again, & chanced on to the finally of the Cracker Parade.  It seems Florida is our country’s greatest beef raising state & the old time cowboys used bull whips in herding the beef thus came the name for Floridians as “Crackers”.  Anyway the horse owner “Cowboys” had their 27th annual trek from Bradenton to Ft. Pierce, FL.  Yesterday Bev wanted a relaxing day so after the morning downtown we went to the beach on the Atlantic side of Hutchison Is. to walk the beach & swim.  Swimming was not a good idea.  Getting in was hard on the feet but otherwise easy.  Soon after getting wet I noticed Bev’s new white hat which she loves dearly was under water so of course I panicked.  I got her head above water, her feet back under her & we started for the beach when a wave pushed me into her knocking her down again.  From that point on we both rolled around in the surf trying to get out of the water while fighting the undertow.  As we emerged from the water the Life Guard came rushing up to ask if we needed help.  By then we were OK but were real grateful he was there.  We had a late lunch/early supper with Terry & Joanne, had an ice cream while running some errands, watched a couple DVD,s & went to bed.  Another typical (?) day on Quimby.

Meanwhile Colin Ayer is here to install the replacement gyro that is not here, our 3 blade prop has been re-pitched from 22” to 20” & is ready to install, our exhaust & water exhaust hoses & exhaust elbow are removed for replacement as will the other oil lines which are to short & chaffing.  I’m so glad we asked Florida Diesel to check out the engine.  She was in sad shape & would probably have given us serious trouble heading up the AICW.  We have an electrician coming tomorrow to check the conditions of our batteries, our alternator & to answer a couple questions.  We also hope to have an electronics person install our cameras, possibly an AIS and also answer a couple questions.  Once Rich has her repaired & the oils & filters are changed we will be good to go north & safe to travel to the Bahamas next winter.  With new bottom paint we are “Good to Go”.

It’s been 8 days on the hard today Feb. 27th.  The yard people finally started working on the bottom this PM, Colin came here to cut the gyro hole & removed the gyro so we are now ready for the new gyro that will arrive tomorrow, the engine is still torn apart waiting for parts & the electrician will arrive tomorrow to complete some of his projects.  With any luck we will be back in the water Monday.  To make the Monday launch possible Bev & I are going to paint the bottom.  The yard people move like snails so it would another week if we wait for them as it was 2 years ago.

Yesterday, Feb.28th the gyro finally arrived @ 3:55 PM, was off loaded & the defective gyro sent off.  What a tremendous relief!  The replacement gyro has been installed & the “Lid” as Colin calls it is back in place.  Colin has had it running, now to see if it works in the water.  Bev & I have given the boat 2 coats of primer where needed & one complete coat of ablative bottom paint.  Tomorrow we will give her the second coat, Colin will apply the finish trim coat to the “Lid” & we are ready to be launched & towed to our slip.  Our engine will not be operational until sometime next week & we cannot  have the alternator rung out until the motor is running.  Engine, alternator, batteries & camera left to go.

Monday 3/3/14 we were finally launched @12:45 PM after a huge battle with the powers in the front office.  Bev & I busted but getting the bottom painted after it was clear the yard personnel had no intention of doing the work.  We had said every day since Thursday we want to be launched Monday but today they said we had not “scheduled” the launch & they were busy so the soonest they could do it was 4:30 PM.  Now the yard closes @ 4:50 PM so it was clear they had no intention of launching us today.  GUESS WHO GOT “B.S”.  Fortunately the yard crew was more sympathetic than the office.  Even if I didn’t burn my bridges we will not go back there.  Tow Boat US took us to our slip just as nice as you please & are we thrilled to be back @ Harbortown Marina.  We had dinner of raw oysters & conch chowder for supper to celebrate.  How dumb!  We forgot to take pix of Quimby’s beautiful new bottom.
